Powered USB Hubs

Anyone know where I can find an inexpensive powered USB hub that can provide about 3A, at least 700mA per port.

Need it to power my babies: http://i.imgur.com/ju3X3.jpg

found this after a little digging: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817801107
no reviews (at least on newegg), the features note claims that it supports a maximum of 0.9A per port (which is the USB3.0 standard, but who knows…)

since you just need to supply power though, you could have a go at building your own!
i have no fucking clue if this would actually work correctly and what needs to be done to build it properly, but…

four (or three, or whatever) 5V @ 1A step-down regulators, like this: http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm2675.pdf
use a wall adapter that can supply enough current at an appropriate voltage for the regulators. something like this, but im pretty sure 5V is too low (see regulator spec sheet): http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&productId=379623&

the regulators are used to make buck converters (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buck_converter and the reference circuit in the spec sheet).
pretty much just do what this guy did for each output you need: http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=50 (i guess…)

then you can use the output from each buck converter to power some usb ports (directly?)

…maybe you should just go with the hub

bootnecklad suggested the latter, but he can’t even finish titan so I don’t trust him. I would definitely consider it if I was running more pi’s (8+ or so), but seems like a bit of effort to run just the three.

That hub looks perfect if it lives up to what it claims to do but I don’t live in USA #1 :frowning:

you will probably be able to find that hub on some uk site (i don’t know of any). if it doesn’t come with a uk-friendly wall adapter, you can get one that will still work (5V @ 3.5A output), provided it has the same connector (or, you could take the connector from the included adapter).
