Pros and Cons of Minecraft 1.5 + & 1.4.7 and Before

Hello reader, I made this post because I have been very controversial about the newer versions of Minecraft. I personally felt like 1.4.7 was the equivalent in my eyes to 2006 RuneScape. Reasons being:

  1. Very few bugs/glitches.

  2. Many useful items and mobs as well as being simple.

  3. Texture Packs are MUCH easier to make.

Now for 1.5 +

Pros

  1. Much more items, mobs and blocks.

  2. Many new functions that make the game interesting.

Cons

  1. Texture Packs are now made with hundreds of .png files.

  2. Much more complex with the new redstone stuff.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO POST WHATEVER YOU WANT RELATING TO THE TOPIC

1.4.7, was packed with bugs, especially on SMP - the chunk errors, the lighting glitches, mobs glitching through blocks and many more smaller bugs - which actually still exist in later versions.

The resource pack thing that Mojang have added is much better then how it use to work, map makers now have the option to add custom sounds to their maps as well as textures. In regards to redstone being more complex, I don’t understand, new redstone devices don’t change the mechanics of how redstone works, they just add more possibility’s.

Overall I prefer minecraft on 1.6. I think since 1.3 the game has been getting better and better, there hasn’t been a change I’ve not wanted.

I like your look on everything. I might have seen 1.4.7 in a different light because I had about 40 mods installed to my copy of minecraft. And I was never good with redstone haha but I was able to create some semi-simple devices

Did they ever fix boats and carts for MP? that was a major flaw.

What was wrong with them

You would get rocketed forward then backtrack then rocket forward then back track. It was like going two steps forward then one step back.

I’m glad we got rid of the buggy 1.4.7. Only thing I miss is the RedPower mod.

I don’t remember that ever happening with boats.

On SMP or SSP?

OHHH NOW I REMEMBER!!!

That was fixed and it is now smooth sailing on both. Shame they didn’t apply it to horses though

It seems as though Mojang is taking the best, most popular mods that dont change minecraft too much and basically make their own version

Examples of this?

Pistons is truly the only one afaik. You can argue horses but its a stretch.

Forge also implemented a lot of fixes in 1.5.x that give a tremendous FPS boost even when using it without mods.

Pistons (piston mod), hoppers (buildcraft) , horses (mo creatures, and it’s not a stretch, Mojang admits to using the mo-creatures code and credits the author), carpet (redpower covers), comparators (also redpower mod iirc)

Ones off the top of my head

Also I think that MC added lamps after redpower added lamps too, but I could be mistaken on that one.
