Building PC for my brother(Xmas present)

It’s going to be hard to choose the parts since I got only like 220€ to use. I want as much performance as I can get with the 200€.
I have few parts of my own:
MSI 8600GT
2(2x1)GB DDR2

What I still need:
Case
Motherboard
Processor
PSU
HDD

Which motherboard/processor should I get for the best performance?, they should cost overall less than 120€.

The processor should be something that I won’t need to be upgrading for a while, and that it can run atleast CoDMW3

Also note that I want motherboard to have DDR2, because I have few sticks.

it’s probably going to cost you more to find a motherboard that tsill supports DDR2 than it would to get a DDr3 motherboard and new ram. Also GL trying to play MW3 on an 8600GT…

Idiot…of course MW3 works on the good old 8600GT, and there are plenty of DDR2 Mobos still in sale, it’s not that old.

And if you are going to post shit like he did, just don’t post.

Except he was totally right. The 8600GT just BARELY meets the minimum requirements. It will run like shit.

And DDR2 is pretty ancient. The modules are stupidly expensive now compared to DDR3, and you’ll probably have to get a second hand CPU and board.

I had the 8600GT a year ago, it would barely play MW1 let alone MW2, so fuck that is it going to play MW3.

This is the only DDR2 supporting motherboard on ebuyer, comes with RAM and a processor as well, but they’re absolute dogshit in terms of performance.

I built this for a friend a couple of months ago, includes EVERYTHING you need to build a fairly average computer except a graphics card (which you already have). Obviously you could save yourself some money if you already have the hard drive, a case+psu and a DVD-RW. But everything on that list comes to roughly €223

It runs MW3, because it’s basically the same shit as MW1 and MW2. It’s the MSI overclocked edition, it could run L4D2 with highest settings, so I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t run MW3.
Keep in mind that my brother is someone who’ve never had a good PC, so he wouldn’t mind a little lagg, I don’t think he would even notice.

It would be okay to me if the mobo uses DDR3, if the price doesn’t go over 250€ then it’s fine.
I think I also have the case for it, my brothers old PC’s case, so that get’s me even more to spend on motherboard/processor/RAM.

So what I have already:
HDD
DVD-RW
Case
GPU

What I need:
Motherboard
Processor
RAM

Why not just go for what eczema3 posted? It seems like a really good deal and just what you’re looking for

To be fair, what i posted, at least 50% of it is stuff he doesnt need such as case, PSU, HDD, DVD-RW

^^ So just remove them then he gets them even cheaper! Done!

The point of this thread is that I want as much performance as I can get with the 250€; Processor should be preferrably dual core, and about 4GB RAM.

I found this “Core i3 2100, LGA1155, 3.1GHz, 3MB” it’s like 114€, I want to spend more on processor now, and less for other parts, since they can be upgraded easily.

After browsing, I came up with this setup:

Is this any good for the price?

Also the HDD I have from brothers old PC is about 30GB IDE I think. Don’t you think it will run bit slow?

most recent motherboards don’t even have an ide connector

cpu - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103851 hexacore won’t find an intel quad-core that low of price

mobo list - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007625%20600007943&IsNodeId=1&name=AM3

He might as well have an i5/i7 instead of that hexacore AMD, I’ve seen the benchmarks and the quad core intel processors perform better.

The i5 I posted was dual core.

I have E4500 Core2Duo @ 3.15Ghz myself and its performance is enough, so the processor that I chose will do, but if you find any cheaper solutions it would be good.

get a quad core i5, it’ll make a huge difference to your life plus it’ll help futureproof your computer

They are about 200$ and my budjet for the whole computer is 250€. Now that I also need to buy a HDD I can use even less for it.
It might make huge difference, but the dual core will do since I have a dualcore and it runs pretty fast, and my brother has always had computers with single core Intel Pentium @ 2GHz, so I don’t think he minds.

Found this bundle:
http://www.ebuyer.com/283385-amd-llano-bundle-including-amd-a6-3500-socket-fm1-processor-asus-f1a55-m-le-3500-f1a55-mle-4gb

I think that’s good bundle and the processor is pretty good too, it has integrated GPU(?) and runs at 444Mhz.
What do you think about this?

Can someone add me on MSN(panu.nurmilaukas@hotmail.fi), someone who knows about the components, I need to decide what processor I’ll take and it’s hard decision, I want the best processor and fairly cheap.

what stores are you willing to buy from and can you build the pc yourself

may help with choosing a cpu: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

according to that page you are getting more performance for every dollar spent on http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103851 than an Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.10GHz

it all boils down to how much you are will to pay for the cpu. My thought is buy a higher-end mobo with a not as powerful cpu(so u/he can upgrade it if needed), i say this since you said he has never had too powerful of a computer. you may look for psu/case, and mobo/cpu combo deal to save money. with the mobo/cpu look for the best deal on mobo; with psu/case the case. i personally havent physically build my own pc yet, but I have done online wishlists, mostly trying to find the best setups for a set price.

the problem with cpu benchmarks is they don’t typically represent real world performance, an i7-2600k is MUCH better than a i5-2500k in benchmarks however in most games and applications the chips are equal and the 2600k only comes out on top when doing serious high end video

because a lot of shit isn’t designed as multi-core applications
