Chat/shout box

I think that this has been requested before. However, I won’t look down 5 pages to find it. Anyway, I really seek some anti-borednes. And NO, porn doesn’t help ^^. Alright, stupid jokes aside. I seriously think that a simple chat/shout box will help bring some quick interactions. I know that you guys will have to enable rules and such. But I think it’s worth it. Probably get new shout box moderators? Anyway, please tell me what you think. Is this a bad idea? Or is this a good idea that will bring more interaction into moparscape?

It’s been brought up a dozen times now. Everytime the answer is basically: IRC

And so I wouldn’t expect a real shoutbox here ever. Something we could use:

Better web irc client, and make it more noticeable to access. Perhaps display recent conversation similar to a shoutbox, but when you click it, it takes you to web client in new tab. Make it as non-intrusive as possible.

I am not familiar with IRC some people told me that it was old? Anyway my only point is to get interaction to the forums. I feel like the forums are going to die. There is many people who left or aren’t enough active.

The web client is much too old and really needs updating, just click “IRC Chat” at the top. Or like everyone else does, download a better irc client (xchat / mirc) and connect to irc.moparisthebest.com or irc.moparisthebest.xxx #moparscape

Needs be more accessible… Many people just want a box to chat in. I am currently on phone. Idc doesn’t work for me.

IRC is old, originated from 1988 if I remember correctly. However it’s still an incredibly useful and flawless chat system so that doesn’t matter. There’s plenty of good, free, mobile IRC clients available from the Android/Apple store, too.

use the irc lol, although I do agree that the IRC should be made more accessible somehow and renamed to “Chat” or “Shoutbox”

Yes, that has been suggested a few times in the past. I think it’s a good idea.

Just in case you’re looking, the Android app store offers an app called AndChat that is arguably the best mobile client available for Android (at least as far as I’ve seen).
For iPhones, there’s Colloquy (paid, but I recommend it for iPhone over the others), LimeChat (paid), and Mango Lite (sucks pretty badly, I’d recommend to just pay the 2$ to use Colloquy).
