Hard Drive down!, need replacement

So my HP G62’s hard drive failed somehow, now i am out of warranty and need to replace another, the original one is now out of stock, i guess they don’t make it anymore (i found one 1 amazon but its about $150, not really worth it for a 2 year old comp i got for $300).

The hard drive model is Samsung HM321h1. is there any another hard drive that would be compatible on my laptop and won’t break my pocket?

Any 2.5" drive will work.

are you sure, honestly i am hardware illiterate, so it doesn’t have to be compatible with the mother board and stuff?

The only thing it needs to be compatible with is the size and the connector. But many drives have both an IDE and SATA connector, so that won’t be a problem.

thanks guys, i am looking into
Seagate ST9160314AS Momentus 5400 160GB:

or this one
Seagate ST9500325AS Momentus 5400 500GB, which is about $80

by the way do hard drives have warranty outside the computer it self. I mean i’ve bought a segate hard drive for my desktop and i got a 3 year warenty on it.

I’ve never seen a drive in my life that supports both IDE and SATA, is that true?

It’s probably SATA, so any 2.5" SATA drive will work. But make sure before you order one.

Is it possible to have optical disc drive with both then? I might be completely mistaken. It’s been a while since I worked with anything that had an IDE connector.

I have sata hdd that has both molex and the newer power connector, but I’ve never seen a disk that has ide and sata.

That’s what I meant! Sorry for the confusion.
