And I agree with the sentiment expressed by n10si. You guys are ingrates.
I still don’t understand why Tom was spending money on it though.
I don’t see why that is difficult to understand, but you’re ok with the fact that he and others were investing a lot of time? I guess people have different priorities and I don’t know if he invested €10 or €10k, but I’d be more upset about wasting my time not a few euro.
He paid for the machine, I payed for the data services. He did invest a good chunk of cash, I offered to pay him back but. It was an investment on his part.
Sounds like you scammed him. I think you should be banned.
is the framework fully completed? what needs to be done? does the server really need to be over the top? if the framework isn’t completed yet we can always just fix up hyperion or something and pack it with content. also i think it should be closed source to the developers or you’ll just have people coming along and hosting it for themselves (which could come back to bite us in the ass later…)

Well I got the impression he was paying for developer hours or something.

im pretty sure it was just a dedicated server that was being paid for,I’m kind of surprised this didn’t come out of the MITB pot of cash but I would assume its because mopar didn’t believe sinisoul would actually complete the job, or wanted to wait until something of substance was created.
Then it comes to no surprise that Sini dropped the ball to play somewhere else.
However he should have waited until a new developer was found.

No he didn’t want another Osiris incident. I don’t blame him.

I think Tom and Zuppers have it handled from this point. But I mean, I know all of you would look forward to an official server but I think the time has long passed for it being possible. We’ll see what they do.

No. I was promised ad rev on completion. Tom wanted to push a web client quickly so this would be possible. But, I never was doing it for the money but the money would have been nice. I don’t think reliably that’s something you can come to expect from a RS server though. A lot of people do it for the money, I think it misguides their process of how they approach things.

It was pretty far along. I think farther along than most people would give it the time and day for. However Jagex, in their engine, had a lot of complex nuances I couldn’t figure out by myself that dealt with the HUD and I wasn’t comfortable trying to move forward without creating a system or systems that helped replicate it in an efficient manner. That’s where I got stuck. The period of time I’m talking about is when Jagex greatly overhauled their interface system into TWO different systems, and my god did that make things a pain in the ass to emulate. Frankly half of their engine is absolute garbage, the only thing I ever admired was their ability to be efficient.

However he should have waited until a new developer was found.[/quote]There should have been more developers anyway, it’s not up to sini to arrange this. If I can quit a paid software job in which I hold a good proportion of the teams knowledge with just a weeks notice then a volunteer should be able to quit whenever they please. It’s up to the lead to manage knowledge retention, and if we as a community let one person take all that responsibility then we get what we deserve.
Get me a development team of sufficiently skilled programmers that can comply with this administrations crappy pay system and function together consistently and I’ll give you an extra post star. I’ve spoken to a lot of people and none of them seem to understand the constraints part of planning anything. Given the resources at my disposal (including other, more complicated constraints) this project was given the best conditions to succeed.
