PC Build?

I want to build a decent computer for playing games such as league of legends, runescape, and the likes. The only problem is I’m hard pressed for cash right now and I will be for a while. I was hoping you guys could point me in the direction of a decent computer that I could build on in the future.

If I wasn’t clear I’m looking for either a list of parts to buy for my own build or alternatively a pre-built computer that I could add better parts to in the future.

Budget ~500 dollars.

I reckon you can put together a nice custom build for $500 that certainly will have no trouble running those games.

Are you American? As best bet is newegg.com for you. Otherwise ebuyer.com if you’re in Europe.

newegg.com is where I get all my parts these days, tigerdirect.com is good too, but generally more expensive unless you catch sales. I might try to create a good build for you on newegg.com, but I’m kind of scared to do so because it makes me want a new computer! :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, here it is:

http://www.moparisthebest.com/builds/newty.html

Total:
$494.94
$9.99 shipping
you get $20 back from a mail in rebate
1 free 4GB kingston flashdrive
2 free games (Just Cause 2 + Mafia)

Plus it’s an awesome computer! The case is ugly, but you can pick a better looking one for about the same price. The power supply that comes with it most likely sucks, but when it goes out you can order one for $40 or so. It also leaves some empty slots to add extra RAM in the future, but 4GB is plenty for now. It supports up to 16.

You can also save money going with a smaller hard drive or not one at all if you have an old computer to harvest from. Anyway, that’s what I’d build, and thanks a lot asshole, because now I want to order it :stuck_out_tongue:

5400rpm harddrive eww

also the motherboard is sata iii(6gb/s) so you’ll need a sata iii harddrive rather than a sata ii(3gb/s)

Sata 3 is backwards compatible with sata 2 and 1 just like sata 2 is with sata 1 isn’t it? I just picked the cheapest 1TB non-western digital hard drive I saw, feel free to grab any or use your existing.

Thanks mopar! Is everything compatible with each other or is niall right?

my bad, sata ii and sata iii are backwards/forwards compatible, the last time I checked I only saw a few rather confusing yahoo answers on google

I’m almost positive everything is compatible. The only thing I didn’t check out really well is the case/psu, make sure it is 24-pin ATX.

I also found better/cheaper RAM:

Only $29.99 after mail in rebate.

If you have a little more to spend, or have old components you can use (like I do), you could go with this build:

Why does the second build have 2 motherboards?

I was trying to decide between the two, but, despite my love for MSI, the ASUS mobo is the one I went with…

Is this still a viable build? Could I run league at 60 fps with this?

I am quite sure it could handle LoL.

You’ll probably get more power for the same money now, however, given that it is like 2 years later.

Looking like I’m going to be building this. I’ve been reading up on it and everyone seems to think it needs a better video card. Does anyone have a suggestion on a better video card?

I actually built that computer that mitb posted.

2 years later, I’m looking to just upgrade it a bit. Any recommendations on what part? not to hijack

Should be well in the range that one would want, unless you’re looking for something like this.

That seems fair priced. I’ll check it out, thanks
