Q and A site for Private Server Development

I’m curious if anyone here thinks it would be worth setting up a Q & A website (similar to stackoverflow) for this community? I could see it being a good way to reduce a lot of the problems we have in the Server Help section (And possibly other sections), but I could also see it going horribly wrong. Any thoughts?

Here is a link: http://www.osqa.net/

(A Q and A site might also come in handy with some of the changes coming up that I’ve been hearing about.)

We had something kind of like that with the moparscape wiki; but I like your idea better tbh.

I think it would be worth trying it.

An FAQ would be far superior to the wiki entries that are scattered around.

I like this idea :o

that actually looks really clean and useful for moparscape.

Looks more like a clone of stackoverflow

I really do like the idea of this, however what will happen to the forums as a result. If we introduced this, it would render all the help sections completely useless although I’m sure mitb could intergrate the accounts with this to make it seamless.

Even though the wiki went no where, I would say this is worth a try. The only problem I see is finding people who will actually take the time to fill the FAQ.

How is this any different than someone posting a thread on the forum and it being answered?

Also, this looks like a nightmare to set up, I’ve never ran python-based django web apps on the server before. I’m sure it’s perfectly do-able, just not as easy as a php script.

The introduction of Tags (which are amazingly useful in this sort of site). The site really promotes self moderation, when asking a question it provides a list of other similar questions already asked to help prevent double posting (instead of counting on a user to search for their answer before posting, it shoves all the other similar questions already asked in their face).
Allowing people to mark answers as ‘accepted’ provides the answer quick to anyone who may have the same problem (vs. having to go through 10 pages on a forum, the answer they want is right there). Also the badge and karma system it provides I think is much better regulated than any system i’ve seen on a forum (It has a pretty good tendency to promote the good, and punish the bad)

And as for the setting it up, it really doesn’t matter unless you think its worth trying…

I don’t necessarily believe that the help sections will be rendered useless. I’m certain there are plenty of things that are better discussed through a forum than a Q&A site.

Personally I find the wiki quite useful. Yes its a little scattered and incomplete, what information it does provide, it provides it in a detailed enough way that is actually useful.

tbh moparscape as a forum seems kinda dull. i think it should be turned into something like a reddit-stackoverflow mix

I think there is probably a PHP equivalent out there somewhere.

www.question2answer.org/

Not as cool as osqa.net’s but still does the job

Meh, I agree with Moparisthebest.

We have forums, let’s embrace and use them.
Less is more.

I jumped the gun when I replied to this. When I saw FAQ, my assumption was that we provide a static page somewhere (which nobody can reply to, obviously) in a format similar to this:
http://archive.gamedev.net/community/forums/showfaq.asp?forum_id=15

Ehh, let’s just keep it the way it is. Forums kinda add more functionality than we’d get out of that system, even if it’s less support functionality.
