Remove our own topics

Tired of seeing “MOD REMOVE PLEASE” or “NEVERMIND” can we just remove our own topics?

People could also use the “Report to Moderator” feature.

Or how about people stop editing their posts out? It’s been said many times, if you found an answer to your question, edit the topic saying what the solution was so anyone can use the search feature in the future. Why does it need to be removed if it’s been solved? If its something extremely trivial or something like a dev/download post you want removed, use the report feature so it can be looked at. We don’t want threads with other peoples comments and such being removed by someone who might have a bias or other motive.

I actually was not referring to those types of topics. (Idk who you were directing your reply to)
I was talking about ones like:

I was directly my reply to the suggestion, but yes reporting those type of topics is what you should do

If we’re talking about this, how about MITB coming up with a modification (unless SMF has one already) like IPB so we can mark the answer that answered the OP?

As far as things like Sk8 talking about - absolutely, we’ve needed this for too long now.

MSCP forum is open source, you can develop said modification yourself.

You realize that simplemachines has that exact mod in place Soulcist? No really, go on their site and look… they have a “topic solved” or “topic not solved” button that shows up when you create a topic.

No, I didn’t. I have been on their site in years or looked at any of their new releases and so on… :frowning:

what about the ability to remove your own topic only if there are no replies? that might solve some of the problems.

People won’t do it, they don’t bother reading the forum rules to begin with. I think sk8rdude461’s suggestion works out pretty well. For as popular as this forum is, we should have little things like that.

I think the ability to lock our own topics would be good too. It would be nice to be able to lock down your own topic if there is a flame war until a moderator can come and clean it up.

EDIT:

That isn’t perfect, but something better than the system we currently have in place is better.

Or if we added the tag system, whats to say most people would use it? People too embarrassed about what they asked or w/e might still edit their post to say ‘REMOVE PLS’. And having those type of tags has been suggested before, I was supportive of it, I can’t remember why it didn’t go through though. But it only really works for help topics, this thread was about all topics that people would want to remove.

Honestly I don’t even think this is a big enough issue to worry about.

Marking solved questions can be more beneficial than anything. When I worked on my servers, do you know how long I spent doing research because 90% of the threads go to dead ends. If there was something that said Topic Solved and linked me to the post that solved the topic that would be extremely helpful. Every other forum I use (Not RSPS Related) has this. It is extremely helpful.

Please elaborate on why you say “No”.

Why should a user be able to lock their own topic? It’s a ridiculous suggestion. To stop flame wars? Stop spam? Why should the topic creator be the one to judge what flame or spam is? Sure, there are some legit reasons, like locking a closed advertisement or development team or whatever, but in that case report it. It doesn’t need to be locked instantly, so the pros dont outweigh the cons by a long shot.

how about deleting our accounts

We’ve all seen how far reporting goes.

All those were from me reporting the topics.

Both sides have made fair arguments but I’m just going to interject here; is this worth doing? I don’t know if I’m just going crazy browsing this forum but this doesn’t seem like significant enough an issue to warrant this change.
