Server Logs

Mopar: please destroy your server logs. Sure its nice to know that the jagex legal team doesn’t have a leg to stand on.

But I’m paranoid.

You may say that you will never give them up… but if you never had them in the first place then they can’t get you for obstruction as well.

Thanks.

im sure theres more to this than you claim…

I don’t think the server logs matter as much as, say, the forums database. Either way though I have my server set to automatically delete logs over 7 days old, that is good enough for you isn’t it? (I need to keep some amount of logs in case of attacks or strange things happening with the server)

7days works. Can you shred them as well? What about forum logs?

You log IP addresses so you can track multiple accounts. Maybe only log those of banned (not warned) members?

you seem to overestimate how hard it is for databases to become corrupted…

Why is this so suddenly an issue? o.O

never gonna let you down…

A new account gets registered from an IP not banned, since the IP isn’t banned I don’t record it, they spam child porn on the forums, I don’t have an IP, so I can’t ban it, the cycle repeats itself.

In other words, it wouldn’t work.

My question does stand. I presume (read: know) this place has logged IP addresses since the very beginning, and I know it has logged IP addresses since the time I was able to see them – this topic is several years late. :stuck_out_tongue:

You should make this thing where you have to enter the numbers 4 8 15 16 23 42 every day or the database is wiped out, so if Jagex is torturing you in some secret dungeon outside of Falador that at least we’re safe

Paranoia re: jagex.

I don’t live in england and the server isn’t there either, so I would at the very least have ample warning before they tried to seize the server or anything ridiculous like that. And all I can do is give you my word before it ever got to that point that they wouldn’t get anything, hardware/software failures happen you know?

Why exactly would Jagex care about user info?

I doubt that they would, they have only ever gone after the people running websites for the same reasons RIAA and company do, because it’s easier to take down one website than 400,000+ users.

Hash the addresses!

with only 4bytes it would be trivial to reverse it.
