why is it, then, that the engine is the only thing about this game youve mentioned? design is key, a sloppy engine makes for a sloppy game.

Well, ok if you want a critique on just the game itself then my opinion would have to be “it looks like complete shit and the controls feel choppy.”

rendering pipeline is very neat and easy to use.
model handling/transforming is a pain

it’s the game development section. there’s plenty to show for like the rotating sprites, moving up and down inclines/declines smoothly, etc.

No player does. They expect the controls to be completely fluent, and will only critique the engine when it’s bad.

yes because does every game have rotating sprites?
engines are skeletons for any type of game

We comment on your game, not your engine. And the rotating sprites are shit, just make a sprites for diagonal movement and it might look a bit better.

then why did you say it shouldn’t be the focus if its just as much a part of the game as anything else? you’re being very inconsistent.

so i’ve been trying to figure out the best way to do camera control because i don’t like the arrow keys.
I’ve tried using the mouse wheel (not smooth at all for some reason), I tried click-drag camera rotation and it just didn’t work because clicking will be needed for object/entity interaction.

I tried making the Q and E keys rotate the camera because you can do it with the same hand that does the WSAD movement but it feels weird too
im puzzled

Try the input demo. Tell me which you prefer, I am curious :p.

Modes:
0 = drag
1 = mouse wheel
2 = Q, E for camera
3 = A, D for camera

you use the number keys to change mode
VK_1 is mode 0, etc…
