Well I would never buy a tablet but I recently found that all of my college textbooks can be bought (pirated) as ebooks. So I contacted my teachers and they said they do not care if its hardcover or ebook as long as I read the assigned material. So basically what tablet should I buy for this purpose, I dont want to get some cheapo tablet JUST for this purpose, I also want something that is decently powerful and will allow me to do other things such as being able to remote desktop, word processing, watching 1080p video. Anyone know of a tablet that will perform these tasks well? I was thinking of just getting an iPad as the benchmarks have shown that it is even faster than the Asus Transformer Prime, but I see that they may be releasing another one soon so what should I do?
You know you don’t NEED a tablet to read eBooks right? You can do it on a computer as well. (or a smart phone, but I understand the small screen thing)
I know, I have them all as pdfs right now but I feel the convenience of a tablet would be much nicer I took a look at the Asus EEE Pad Transformer but the fact that it doesn’t come with the dock is ridiculous when I could just buy a Bluetooth keyboard or the like. I like the iPad but fact that its at the end of its product cycle worries me. I guess worst case I could just keep buying an iPad and returning it within 30 days until the iPad 3 comes but that becomes a bit tedious
How about a real ebook reader? The screens on tablets aren’t very pleasant at all for reading, whereas a Kindle (for example) causes no strain whatsoever.
I would have went this way but I’ve already bought a new laptop a couple months back. I think i’m just going to deal with reading the book on my laptop for now and wait for the new iPad to come out
I agree. I have a Sony PRS-650, and I love it. But there is a downside, pdf files aren’t resizable the way epubs are. So you have to convert them, which means the lay-out turns out wrong.
If reading ebooks is all you want to do, you should buy a good ereader and a really cheap tablet for pdf’s.

Well I take fights almost weekly so it would be a big upside not to carry a laptop along when i could just use an ipad on plane for movies and ipad+keyboard for work. Only downside is I doubt apple is going to be adding a microsd slot anytime soon. I may still go with one of the asus transformers havent fully made up my mind yet.

It’s not because they don’t add an sd card because their cheap, its because they are extreme about their software security

That has absolutely nothing to do with software security.

Yes, It does, If you used an sd card and store stuff on it, and you apparently downloaded a .ipa file (installer file format for ios) and it wasn’t developed by a certified developer, it was written maliciously and it gets your phone in a state of no turning back, unless of course you want to restore your phone or something

You talk such shit.
Seriously, and even if any of the shit he said were remotely true its not like you cant save files on the fucking internal storage
Apple will never add a card slot. The reason they won’t is because if they do, they have no reason to sell a 16, 32 and 64GB version of most of their products. Perhaps the costs of a 32 over a 16GB iPad is more than just a bigger memory card, but I bet they get a shitload of profit just from selling a product with more storage capacity. I wouldn’t call it a scam, but it’s close.

if they don’t offer removable media and sell differing size models then it is a scam, plain and simple
This, but that’s just Apple for you. Same with their stupid proprietary port for the USB charger/docking.

That’s annoying too. I mean, you’ll always have a phone or other device that comes with a normal mini-usb wall charger, which can be used with all your other devices. Of course, Apple decided to make cash cows out of their customers.
I thought you guys were joking about the SD card thing, the iPad really doesn’t have one? That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. My original Motorola Razor from 2006 had an SD card slot.
