Rep Return

Yeh, it actually looks pretty cool :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe we could do an indirect reputation system based on the amount of good posts you create, negative posts wouldnā€™t affect your reputation. Every 10 ā€˜likesā€™ add one reputation point, perhaps.

Just an idea, anyone else?
Iā€™ve just found the edited modification that was the thanks mod in the link I posted above, Iā€™m gonna be applying some changes to the forum over the coming days so Iā€™ll reinstall the modification and try it out. That being said if Iā€™m going to push it to the live forum I want some input from the community, so do you guys like the idea of a thanks mod or not? Or would you prefer something like what Lothy posted? Thereā€™s configuration to consider with the thanks system such as should a users total thanks be displayed, the amount of times theyā€™ve thanked others, should their be a limit, and should thanks be displayed on the post?

You mean something like this http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/?mod=1890 ?
I do like the idea Lothy posted.

That could work out well.

But another thing would be to keep votes hidden from the person, a problem with the old rep system is people knew who rep++ and rep-- them so they could either rep++ that person back and gain more rep that way or end up holding a grudge on that person and cause problems.

Those ideas are gonna require someone actually writing the changes though whereas the thanks mod and like/dislike system are already written. So you could opt for the other ways but the chance of them being implemented will probably land somewhere around zero unless anyone is feeling generous with their time?

This is still the same idea as Rep. The ā€˜Thanksā€™ system would be much more useful and would stop a lot of potential abuse, which we all know will happen the moment something with a positive/negative option system is implemented.

So the thanks mod doesnā€™t support hiding of the stats?

If the good post/bad post mod gets implemented I will try to do it, no promises though. PHP is not my cup of tea.

thanks> rep. Rep will be always be abused in someway no matter what.

I vote we implement dogecoin/bitcoin addresses and we can just tip a few coins if we feel a thread worthy

this was my god damn idea

I still think my suggestion is the best one because it makes reputation qualitative instead of quantitative and also weighs users not only on absolute votes but the breadth of the voting base. :stuck_out_tongue:

If you make the barrier to participation high enough so that throwaway accounts canā€™t unduly contribute to that voting base breadth then you should find that the score a user receives is actually representative of community sentiment towards them.

I like your idea best too, but who is going to write it? Volunteers?

It needs to be written as an SMF plugin right? Iā€™ll take a look at how those are done later after work, but no commitments.
It looks like SMF supports scheduled tasks so thatā€™s helpful.

EDIT: Wow, Iā€™m impressed that the SMF codebase is so bad. Why havenā€™t they ever moved to one of the MVC frameworks or something.

I nominate atomic to do everything.

Hello all,

Honestly, I think we should have the option to Rep++ againā€¦

Why?

Because it gave Moparscape a ā€˜Golden Ageā€™ where the rsps community prosperedā€¦I thinkā€¦maybeā€¦
People would also put more pride into their work, they would take more time (and effort) into it as wellā€¦Because of being afraid someone wont like their work and rep them down. It also may stop people from posting in the wrong sections of the forum on purpose.

Some planning

Rep++ obviously wont come back easily because it needs improvements/revised systemā€¦I dont even understand why it was taken out due to inactivity at the time it was removed.

Are you with me? Bring back the Legacy!

no

Why not?

Why not?
i see it as this, why not. I didnā€™t really see it THAT negative, nor really positive.
