[RESOLVED - SOLUTION PROVIDED] Name change

I think we have the right to be able to change our names.

Taharok a very long time told me that there are very frequent requests from users asking to have their usernames changed but apparently it would cause confusion among members on who’s who which my solution would be do what Jagex did and have “lastly known as + name”.

Some reasons why people may want a name change?

  • Lacked creativity when creating the account
  • Bullying
  • Don’t want to make a new account due to status’s, ranks, posts etc
  • Time for a change?
    etc!

There may be a mod for this with smf if not get one of the web noobies to do it :D?

i dont see why names even matter on this community
you’re known for what you contribute and what you know; not what your name is

i think if a user asks for a name change, or brings up any topic regarding name changes then they should have their name changed to something stupid to piss them off

I think people should be allowed a name change for every 10k posts they have

Kinda support; depends on how it’s implemented. Like one name change every 6 months+ & the ability to see previous names sounds good.
Personally, I want a name change ‘kidpaparoach’ is the most stupid username…

Sort of 50/50 on the idea. Look at vain above us. I Vain I even though he like tell you to go screw yourself if you ask him something about rsps he is probably one of the most respected developers that still reside on the site.

I think David had the best idea. After 10k posts you can change it one time! I would totally make mine “babymaking”

Why 10k posts though? 10k posts is 30 ish posts per day for a year from 0, 15ish per day for 2 years and so on. 10k posts is excessive, personally if this was implemented I’d expect anyone above moparian to be eligible to use it as 1k posts generally means you are or have been active (assuming it wasn’t a paid feature).

Name changes are technically allowed but it’s up to the discretion of whatever staff you ask.

Another reason that name changes are generally not taken lightly is that they create the potential for abuse but to a lesser degree than making a new account (which is also against the rules just FYI).

No need to be able to change your name, if you want something small sure, but we have no other reason to ever need a change except if you picked something stupid.
