RSWiki

super_ and I were discussing the documenting of the rs2 protocol/client in a wiki format (since he did some work with graham/blakeman on their currently nonexistent wiki). If anyone has any pages or input they’d like to commit, the link is below:

http://rswiki.gyrat.in/index.php?title=Main_Page

Only registered users can create/edit pages; once the majority of people who want to be involved register, I will close registration to ensure the wiki information will remain as accurate as possible.

Discuss.

EDIT: also, if anyone has a nice logo that I could use for the wiki, that would also be helpful (I was thinking the bulldozer, I just need a medium-sized, transparent image).

It’s been done already, it was just lost.

Feel free to contribute to the wiki; I’m sure you’re pretty familiar/have something to share.

hey frank qq and suck my disproportionately large cock

why is abraham even allowed in this section

He got the 50 reputation points as required, lol.

Perhaps instead of studying our e-peen, we should be working on a some-what easy community project…?

I could purchase a domain for this if you want.

I could even host it if someone else wanted to administrate it, I don’t want to. That was the problem with the other ones, no administration.

Did you not read the thread? We’ve got a domain, I own it.

I am fine with myself administrating/hosting it, hosting is provided by Mopman’s bitdash (I’ve got lifetime trial  ). If it so happens that I lose hosting or the domain, I will always keep a backup and not just lose it like Graham.

What needs to be done is adding content; ahem: super_, frank_, Moparisthebest(?), abraham2119, etc…

Yep, keep weekly backups at a minimum, and keep a copy of them off-site as well in case a hard drive or your whole host goes down. rsync and/or rdiff-backup is nice for this.

@wiki, do you still need a backup of the runewiki database?

If it contains nothing about client -> server communications and such or anything USEFUL, it isn’t worth anyone’s time.

But also, it seems everyone in this thread keeps missing the point: it needs content, I sure as hell am not qualified to write about it (and there’s obviously people here who are with minimal effort).

Obviously I read the thread; I saw that the wiki was located at a sub domain and I was merely offering a better solution…

I’m in control of the domain, and if it were hosted here (mitb) I’m sure it would also be a subdomain. I understand your post better, and I thank you for your wanting to help. But at this point in time I think it’s better if we have a wiki that isn’t a blank page…

If you expose too much of the client and Jagex found out about the exposure, wouldn’t that result in lawsuits?

No. Information isn’t against the law.

Exactly, saying, for example, a packet with opcode 73 contains the information for the pId of the attacking player and whatnot isn’t against any law…
